Affiliate Disclosure

How this site makes money, what affiliate links are, and what that means for the information you read here — in plain language.

The short version: We may earn a small commission if you buy something through a link on this site. We always disclose this before you click. It never influences what we write.

Why this page exists

The Patient Insider is committed to transparency, especially because this site covers health, insurance, and financial topics that directly affect people's decisions. This page explains, in plain language, how this site makes money and what that does and does not mean for the advice and information you read here.

This page matches the commitments already made in our Editorial Policy (Section 9) and our About page. Nothing here introduces a new policy — it makes the existing one citable on its own dedicated page, as required by FTC disclosure guidelines.

How this site makes money

The Patient Insider may earn revenue in the following ways:

  • Our own digital products — guides, templates, checklists, and toolkits clearly listed and priced on this site.
  • Affiliate links — if you click a link to an outside product or service and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission, at no additional cost to you.
  • Display advertising — ads may appear on some pages, served through standard ad networks.

What an affiliate link is

An affiliate link is a tracked link to another company's product or service. If you click it and complete a purchase, that company pays us a small referral fee. This is a common way that independent websites stay free to readers.

It does not change the price you pay. You pay the same amount whether you click through our link or go directly to the company's website.

How we disclose affiliate links

  • Any page containing affiliate links or sponsored content will say so clearly at the top of that page, before you reach the link itself.
  • We do not bury or disguise this disclosure in fine print, a footer, or a separate page you have to go looking for.
  • If a specific product mention is sponsored or compensated outside of a standard affiliate arrangement, we will say that explicitly, separate from our normal product or tool recommendations.

Our editorial independence commitment

This is the part we take most seriously, and it matches what we have already committed to in our Editorial Policy:

  • Affiliate relationships never influence which information we include, what we recommend, or how we assess a product or service.
  • We do not accept payment to include specific products, services, or organizations in our editorial content.
  • We do not allow advertisers or affiliate partners to review or approve content before publication.
  • A guide on how to dispute a medical bill gives you the same honest information whether or not we earn a commission from anything mentioned on that page.

Our own products are not editorial content

When we sell our own digital products — such as the Hospital Bill Rescue Kit or the Insurance Appeal Letter Pack — they are presented as commercial offerings, clearly labeled with prices. They are never disguised as independent editorial content.

The free guide on a topic always tells you what you need to know. The paid product is a deeper, more complete version of the same honest information — not the reason the guide exists.

What this means for you as a reader

  • You will always know when a link could earn us money, before you click it.
  • Our recommendations — free or paid, affiliate or not — are chosen because we believe they're genuinely useful, never the other way around.
  • You are never required to use an affiliate link or purchase a product to access our core educational content. The guides on this site remain free regardless.

Questions about this policy

If you have any questions about a specific link, recommendation, or product on this site, you're welcome to ask. We aim to respond within 2–3 business days.
